It’s been a few years since Sony reimagined its Xperia range and the company has begun to establish itself as an interesting alternative to run-of-the-mill Android phones. Next on the agenda for a Mark ii upgrade seems to be its mid-ranger, with the Sony Xperia 5 ii. Courtesy of a leaked video, we now know a lot more about the upcoming phone.
Sony’s Xperia phone range now consists of the 1, 5, and 10 – so, we aren’t surprised to see the follow-up to the Xperia 5 now emerge following the sequels to the other models.
Our first look at the Xperia 5 ii came via a leak of the design and camera setup. Now, we’ve been given a whole lot more information due to the leak of a promotional video for the new device. Read on for all the important leaks, rumours and details on the Xperia 5 ii – from price and release date to specs and camera details.

Sony Xperia 5 ii specs
The leaked video, courtesy of AndroidHeadlines, details the Xperia 5 ii specs. Here’s how they shape up:
- 6.1-inch Full HD+ HDR OLED display
- 120Hz refresh rate
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB storage (expandable via MicroSD)
- 4000mAh battery
- 3.5mm headphone jack
Those are some decent specs for Xperia’s mid-range offering., the stand out being the 120Hz display. The headphone jack is also nice to see, with the port having been dropped on last year’s model. The rest of the specs aren’t far off flagship chops so pricing will be an interesting piece of information.
Sony Xperia 5 ii release date and price
There’s been little in the way of information regarding release date for the new Xperia. However, if it follows the same pattern as its predecessor, we can expect a launch in mid-September.
Pricing details have also been thin on the ground. The original Sony Xperia 5 was priced at £699 and this year’s Xperia 1 ii costs £1099. With the expected specs of the Xperia 5 ii, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some kind of price rise from £699 but keep those fingers crossed.

Sony Xperia ii camera
A camera-related leak came via one of the most well-known prolific leakers in the smartphone industry, Evan Blass, via his Patreon. (via GSMArena)
One of the things that have established the reimagined Xperia line is its focus on camera tech, and that seems to be sticking around for the Xperia 5 ii.
The camera setup appears to be identical to the Sony Xperia 1 ii, except for the lack of a 3D ToF sensor. In our Xperia 1 ii review, we said: “Shooting with this phone feels more like taking snaps and capturing video with an actual camera than any other phone.”
So, for camera fans, a similar setup carrying over will be a huge bonus – the dedicated shutter button also looks to be sticking around too. If the setup is indeed the same as the Sony flagship, you’ll be getting a 12-megapixel f/1.7 main sensor, a 12-megapixel 3x telephoto zoom, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide. These camera specs were also corroborated by the recent promotional video leak.
